Myeloma
Triphop, Downbeat — Fremantle

Hailing from Fremantle, Western Australia, Myeloma (Silas Hick) takes an eclectic background in dark folk, hip-hop, funk and metal and applies them to his first solo venture as the primary creative force behind Myeloma. Ideas spawned across many years were finally given life when, after the untimely passing of close friend and long-time musical collaborator – BKV front man Brad O’Brien – Silas retreated to his bedroom studio and began writing, recording, and engineering music under the moniker Myeloma (a tribute to his late father). Teaching himself the technical side of production in the process, Myeloma aimed to bring to fruition a wealth concepts and music co-written with his friend, as well as a suite of some of the more intimate, personal material he had been working on over the years.

The first of such offerings; “Time” was initially co-written and recorded with Brad in 2009 by their acoustic duo Red Letter Day. It appeared again with the full force of metal band Buzz Kill Vamps on their first self-titled EP in 2010. Its latest incarnation is a dark, groovy, downbeat remix of the original song recorded with a single microphone in a smoky Fremantle lounge room over a decade ago and captures the stripped back simplicity and beauty of the duo’s songwriting at the time.
